“Escuchamo’ a Páez, y Nacemos de Nuevo”- We Listen to Páez and We Are Born Again

Guido Pisani

Languages: Spanish, Castilian

DOI: 10.17160/josha.9.6.863

Historically, music has been used to maintain or restore people’s health across different civilizations, characterised by different uses and beliefs. Different methodologies involving music have been applied in pathologies varying from psychiatric disorders, to physical pain. Singing, playing instruments, or even passively listening to specific melodies were recognized by many societies as key in the rehabilitation of different pathophysiological processes. The scientific method applied to study the impact of music on human health has led to a deeper understanding of the potential benefits of music therapy applied as part of the formal medical treatment in specific diseases. In the last 30 years, numerous studies focused on analysing the impact of specific musical interventions in conditions such as pain associated with cancer and surgery, refractory epilepsy, anxiety, and neurological post-stroke rehabilitation.

Ruth Rojas

Languages: Spanish, Castilian

DOI: 10.17160/josha.9.5.853

Surgery in patients with synchronous metastatic disease in colorectal cancer is a great therapeutic option to reduce mortality and increase survival, however, there is no international consensus for the surgical approach. The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare two types of surgical interventions (simultaneous and deferred/classical) in relation to the impact they have on survival. A systematic review.

Morbilidad y Mortalidad de Cirugía de Páncreas - Morbidity and Mortality from Pancreatic Surgery

Michelle P. Peñaherrera, Carlos A. López

Languages: Spanish, Castilian

DOI: 10.17160/josha.9.5.852

To determine the relationship between the hospital and the surgeon volume with mortality and morbidity in pancreatic surgery, publications in which the subject of the study were patients undergoing pancreatic resections, were considered as inclusion criteria, the independent variables were the volume of the hospital and or the surgeon, the results were mortality and/or morbidity. Conference abstracts, case reports, studies in languages other than Spanish and English, from single center and studies in which they do not define a numerical value to determine the classification according to volume were excluded. A literature review was conducted from December 1, 2011 to December 1, 2021 on 4 search engines. A risk of bias assessment was performed with the ROBVIS tool, Microsoft Excel was used for the tabulation of the results, and IBM SPSS was used for statistical analyses.

What is the Evidence between Tension-Free Tapes and Burch Surgery for Stress Urinary Incontinence in the Terms of Quality of Life?: A Systematic Review

Luz L. Aguirre Vera, Miguel Ángel Alarcon Nivía, Sonia Osma Zambrano

Languages: Spanish, Castilian

DOI: 10.17160/josha.9.3.827

Urinary incontinence (UI) is defined as the inability to voluntarily retain urine. With a high prevalence, up to 25% in those under 50 years of age, and a great impact on the affected person, to the point of modifying their lifestyle and social relationships. Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is the most prevalent in women, which is why it is the study objective of this review. Since the evidence does not show great differences between the different surgical techniques, the objective of this review is to find all the available evidence that compares the two main surgical techniques in terms of efficacy in terms of quality of life.

The Unionism of Oaxacan Teachers against the Education Reform in Mexico (2012-2018). A case of Social Movement Unionism

Mariano Casco

Languages: Spanish, Castilian

DOI: 10.17160/josha.9.3.821

This thesis addresses the unionism deployed by Section 22 of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) against the Education Reform promoted during the presidential term of Enrique Peña Nieto (2012-2018). The reform established a set of criteria determining hiring, contract renewal, and promotions for teachers within the education system. Section 22 of the SNTE, union that represented public education workers from Oaxaca State, questioned the modifications and raised a belligerent unionism against the education measures. The union carried out extensive strikes, used strong repertoires of collective action, proposed a form of organization based on assemblies and sought to articulate its action against the reform with other demands raised by different subaltern groups.

Tareas de control cognitivo Simon Task: revisión crítica - Cognitive Control Tasks Simon Task: Critical Review

Tatiana T. Castañeda

Languages: Spanish, Castilian

DOI: 10.17160/josha.9.2.814

Cognitive control tasks allow the analysis of data provided by experimental processing mechanisms, in which one must respond under conditions of congruence-incongruence stimuli. The present critical review aims to analyze the main studies of the Simon Task cognitive control task, with special attention to the research method employed. The literature search was carried out using the PubMed and MedLine databases. Five studies conducted between 2000 and 2020 were selected. There is a remarkable growth in experimental research with the use of cognitive control tasks, especially classic tasks such as the Stroop, the Go/No Go and Eriksen's Flanker, which due to their wide description in the literature can help to strengthen discussions in researches that want to measure this variable.

Las mujeres y el apocalipsis - Women and the Apocalypse

Sol Minoldo

Languages: Spanish, Castilian

DOI: 10.17160/josha.9.2.809

Both overpopulation and extinction would be the (extreme) results of moving away from that equilibrium point in which the population reproduces enough to guarantee its 'replacement': it neither grows nor decreases, but keeps the number of individuals stable by replacing those who die with those who are born. In the past, there was high concern about overpopulation and the goal was greater birth control. However, at least in Europe, things have changed. To the concern of many, fertility rates in some countries are below 2 children per woman. In addition, the demographic explosion of the world human population had nothing to do with an increase in births, but rather with a higher life span. In this article, Sol Minoldo discusses real-life examples that highlight the underlying complexity of the attempts to keep this population replacement rate constant. La máquina de hacer pastillas - The pill-making machine

Julieta Alcain, Nicolas Chiarante, Matías Zelaya

Languages: Spanish, Castilian

DOI: 10.17160/josha.9.1.804

Pharmaceutical companies do not set their prices based on production costs, but rather based on market price. In courtiers under development, this frequently limits the access of pharmaceutical products to people that need them but cannot afford it. Price mainly depends on the relationship between supply and demand, competition with other suppliers, and the level of 'freedom' with which pharmaceutical companies can operate. In the present article, Julieta Alcain, Nicolas Chiarante, and Matías Zelaya discuss in detail each of these variables, and how public production of medicines may secure their supply to every patient that may need them. Neuroeducational Intervention in Children with Intellectual Disabilities - Intervención Neuroeducativa en Niños con Discapacidad Intelectual

Silvia Gonzalez, Yessica Milena Flórez Bautista, Monica Machado sanchez

Languages: Spanish, Castilian

DOI: 10.17160/josha.8.5.792

An adequate intervention in the classroom for children with intellectual disabilities has been one of the main concerns of the teaching team, due to the high dropout rate that is currently occurring in Colombia (MEN, 2015). The lack of knowledge on how to intervene is one of the most influential reasons for children in condition of intellectual disability to fail to integrate successfully, nor to achieve an optimal learning process, these factors generate frustration not only in the student, but in teachers and family members, (Martínez, 2017) therefore, the need to investigate the impact caused by different strategies in the learning process in children with intellectual disability emerged. After a review of academic literature, it was found that neuroeducation provides the necessary elements that children with disabilities need so that their process in the classroom is not truncated.

More than 30 years have passed since the Hubble Space Telescope was put into orbit at 7 km per second and 500 km far from the Earth surface. After a few (not so minor) adjustments, the Hubble Telescope gathered data that has been published in more than 15,000 scientific articles. On the contrary of what was hypothesized during the late 90s, the Hubble Telescope was critical for determining that the universe is expanding, and that the expansion velocity is actually increasing. This also supported the idea of the existence of dark energy and dark matter, something that we still do not understand at all, but occupies 68 and 27% of the Universe, respectively. It is expected that the Hubble Telescope will be operational until 2030, and then replaced by the James Webb Space Telescope. The Hubble Telescope gave us the most striking images we have from our Universe so far. This is it´s story.
