The book "La machine à remonter le temps: Quand l'Europe s'est mise à écrire l'histoire du monde" by historian Serge Gruzinski, theorizes the beginning of global history as early as the sixteenth century, through the acculturation and submission of indigenous historical narrative to the European, following the Spanish and Portuguese conquest of the West Indies. It happened through "the capture of memories" (p. 17) of non-European populations, which has determined an almost complete subordination of writing the history of the indigenous people concerning European canons.
